Southwestern sources list this term as a synonym of bayo lobo, but Santamaría indicates that the terms are not synonymous in Mexico. According to the DM, bayo coyote is used more often for mules than for horses. It is a lighter color than bayo lobo and a horse so designated often has white spots on its head, flank, and belly.
